Mellors Elliott Motorsport (MEM)
Chris Mellors supported the club on the first Dalby Gravel Sprint along with fellow competitor Des Winks.  The relationship has continued and Chris is still involved in the new Forest Rally to date.

Chris Mellors is not only the proprietor of Mellors Elliot Motorsport, he is also a triple National Champion rally driver in his own right, winning the Mintex National Rally Series in 1994, 1995 & 1996, in MEM prepared Ford rally cars.

It is this wealth of motorsport and engineering experience that Chris and his team offer to their customers.  Although he did not drive himself in 1997, Chris and his team prepared and ran cars for various customers that year, again winning the Mintex National Rally Series for the fourth year in a row (with Brian Lyall driving this time).  In addition to contesting the British National Series, the team also prepared and ran the cars that took the top 3 overall positions in the 1997 Scottish Rally Championship.

But it is not only rallying that the team have a wealth of experience of - the team have also prepared and run various racing cars, including various Porsches and a Lotus Esprit GT2 car, in the past.

However, in recent years, the team has concentrated on rallying once more.  After their successful 1997 season, the team broadened their horizons and worked with various Polish and Czechoslovakian teams for several years.

Then in 2002 the team embarked on their most ambitious venture to date; the World Rally Championship, contesting the Production World Cup.  The team ran the 'works' Proton entry in the Series, with the driver being the reigning Asia-Pacific Champion, Karamjit Singh from Malaysia.

The MEM Team shook the establishment by winning their first event in the Championship, the Cyprus Rally.  Another maximum score on the toughest rally of them all, the Safari, gave the team a comfortable lead in the Championship and they went on to clinch the title on Rally Australia.  Not bad for a first attempt!

It was always the plan that the PWRC would be contested over a couple of years, so the team returned in 2003 to defend their title.  The competition was fierce, including a factory Subaru Impreza WRX for Toshi Arai and no shortage of young talent in Mitsubishi's.  Indeed, one of those drivers was the reigning Junior World Rally Champion Driver, Daniel Sola.

The opening event in 2003 was Rally Sweden - snow and ice.  Not exactly something Malaysians are familiar with!  However, once again Karamjit showed his true class as a driver, only being beaten on the event by Stig Blomquist, the 1984 World Champion and also a native of Sweden and the area of the rally in particular.  You could say he was driving in his own back yard!

As the season progressed, it was Toshi Arai that held the upper hand, but stiff competition came from Martin Rowe and indeed Martin went on to clinch the 2003 title with a superb win in Australia followed up by a measured and mature drive in Corsica.  The MEM Team were in contention throughout the season, but this year it was not to be, eventually finishing 4th.

But that isn't to say they weren't winning in 2003.  Mitsubishi USA decided to step up their involvement in the SCCA's ProRally Series and MEM were given the task of building two new cars for the 2003 season.  The team then went on to supply theTechnical expertise throughout the season, with UK driver David Higgins winning a remarkable 7 out of the 9 events to dominate the Series.  Not only that the second car, driven by American driver Lauchlin O'Sullivan, went on to clinch the runner up slot in the Series.  A superb 1-2 at their first attempt!

We hope to keep you up-to-date with the MEM teams exploits through out the seasons.
